The "signature" project of the Hawk Children's Fund (HCF) in 2010 was a $15,000 partnership with the Uganda Community Library Association (UgCLA). This "Rural Solar Demonstration Project" funded the renovation and solar powering of two small rural libraries in Uganda. The most ambitious part of this project was the construction of a library building in Lokotoro, Uganda with the Uganda Rural Community Development Association (URCODA).
The second major component of this funding was the renovations and solar powering of the existing community library in Mpolyabigere, Uganda. This project also included the construction of an outdoor "reading building" and the addition of new restrooms for the library. This project has been 100% funded and completed on-time and on-budget. Funding included a $5,000 grant to the "Hawk Children's Fund" from the UMES Rural Development Center, Cooperative Extension Center (RDC,CES,UMES) for a "Rural 'Off-Grid' Solar Demonstration Project". An additional $5,000 in funding was raised by the student managers of the Hawk Children's Fund through a series of charity luncheons and dinners in 2009.
The remaining $5,000 was donated by private citizens in the community who wish to support our efforts to help children in Africa. |
